5 things I'd like to see in Opera

zomg decided to tag me, so I guess it's about time I actually respond for a change.

  • Vastly improved developer tools
The current developer tools are just sad, we need something that is actually useful for us developers to use.
  • Immediate removal of unclear 'features'
For some weird reason Opera seems to think it's a good idea to block access to webservers running on strange ports. If my webserver at home runs on port 81, Opera will happily try to run the page, but if my webserver at home runs on port 79, then Opera will deny me access to my system. Opera is client-side software, it should never make decisions for me when it comes to the server-side of things - and if it does, it should provide a list of precisely what ports are blocked.
  • Auto-updating of the browser
Most users will not visit Opera every now and then to update their browser, not even if Opera shows them a little window that says their version is upgraded. Much like Firefox, Opera should automatically download new stable versions and the user should be given an option to either install this version or install it after the next restart.
  • Synchronisation support
Opera should allow you to sync your bookmarks/notes/userjs with a central server.
  • Vastly improved UserJS support
UserJS and GreaseMonkey scripts can be dumped in a directory where Opera supposedly uses them. There is however no way of seeing if these scripts actually work, which ones are currently being applied to the page, and removal of scripts is also something that requires you to manually delete them. Opera should provide better debugging tools as well as a manager to enable/disable and remove scripts.

June 26th, The Day of Silence

June 26th is the Day of Silence. The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!).

My radio station of choice, Digitally Imported, is of course participating.

Hard Bass

Here are the images and videos Lasse and I made during Hard Bass last night:

Another picture perfect weekend!

I've just arrived at the office after dropping off Han at the airport. Even though we set a ton of alarms, due to some horrible planning from our side (who forgets about rush hour traffic in the mornings?) we had to get her on a later flight. On the upside: at least we had time for some coffee at the airport.

The weekend was awesome! Cheer

My brother and his fiancee had decided to give me an early birthday present and had organized a weekend for Han and myself in the Seaview Suite at hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee. The room was wonderful and had the most beautiful view. Saturday evening we decided to walk to town and enjoy a good meal, we had a ton of fun!

Sunday night we decided to take things easy and relax at home with some Southern Comfort and browse through some episodes of Celebrity Jeopardy SNL sketches, we laughed quite a bit.

Three more weeks and then I'm heading to the UK. Can hardly wait!

Last evening alone!

Long day at the office today, the usual tons of work and too little time to get everything done, but at least the quick drive home was a breeze since I managed to avoid most of the traffic jams. Yay for returning home a bit later than the average 9-5 person in this country!

Today's been a seriously good day since I know that Han will be heading my way again tomorrow!

As usual we've got quite the weekend planned, but for once it isn't filled with going clubbing and meeting friends night after night. Instead we'll race over to my parents to get my car, which has been in for repairs, and we'll spend the rest of the weekend just lounging about and enjoying some quiet time near the sea. Let's hope the weather is at least a bit decent.

All ready for a picture-perfect weekend!

Back once again with the renegade master!

It was about time to start updating my personal blog again, so here we go!
